How to Clean Wooden Kitchen Cabinets

Author: Andrew Kranz

One of the most overlooked areas when it comes to cleaning your kitchen is the cabinets. The longer you neglect cleaning your cabinets, the harder it’ll be to make them as clean as new. It’s especially easy to neglect your kitchen cabinets when you consider the other concerns that go into cleaning your kitchen. Once you do find the time for cleaning your cabinets, it’s time to decide whether or not you have the right materials to get the job done. Typically, all you need is water, vinegar and olive oil or vegetable oil. For particularly hard to kill stains on your cabinets, baking soda & water may be the best solution.

1. Vinegar and Water:

Vinegar & water is one of the most common remedies for removing grease from your cabinets. Since vinegar is a natural cleaner, it’s quite effective in breaking down grease. By adding a little dish soap into a bottle and shaking it you’ll have a perfect mixture for restoring a greasy kitchen cabinet back to new. Simply spraying the solution onto the cabinet, and letting it sit for 3-5 minutes can be a serious key in making your cabinet cleaner than you could have ever expected.

2. Vinegar, Salt and Water:

If you have stains that won’t come out no matter how hard you’ve been trying using the vinegar & water formula, consider adding a little salt into the mix. A cup of vinegar and a cup of salt mixed together in a bowl should be enough to get rid of any stubborn stains on your cabinet. After letting the mixture sit on the problem area for a few minutes, scrub the problem area with a soft toothbrush, very gingerly to avoid damaging the wood of your cabinet. Once you’ve given the cabinet a good scrub, rinse the mixture away with a wet cloth before drying it with a towel.

3. Baking Soda and Water:

If you find that no matter what you try, you still have stains that just won’t go away, try a combination of baking soda and water. Mix the two ingredients before scrubbing them with a sponge. After you scrub the area, give it a rinse with water. This is a particularly good solution to clean a kitchen cabinet that’s been hit with multiple food stains over time. After you rinse the cabinet with water, it’s usually a good idea to treat the cabinet by cleaning it with detergent and water. Preserving your kitchen cabinets will do you a lot of good in the long run. The longer your kitchen cabinets remain clean and free of wear and tear, the longer it’ll be before you have to get them redone.
